POST 10 - English Language Challenges

When I'm was child I used to have fun doing translating songs in English to Spanish and in learned it in english, because in the past i like pop music like Myley Cyrus or Avril Lavigne and I wanted to know what the hell they had saying. Since then, I have a good pronunciation (not excellent but at least it's something).

In the university, learning English has been somewhat difficult, I tried to use the verbs in its corrects times, but when I talk in English I forget it. I like to express myself in other language, although I need time to process the words. On the other hand, write blogs, it's more simply because i can to look in the dictionary or ask to teacher. Hopefully we had a translate dictionary in our minds.

This semester the topic of the blogs has been interesting, because I have to think in my future or give my opinion in a controversial topic, that was satisfying because I this topic needs more discussion in the university, I would like have more of these discussion times (in English or Spanish)

As I said before what it’s most difficult to me is talk in English, because I forget the word, I forget the grammar, and exist a lot of concepts that I unknown, but well I pretend improve this situation with a list of the verbs with its times and meaning, and learn them.

Even though I still have a lot to learn in this domain, I have realized that I can listen a serie in english I can understand better than before what the hell they saying (without subtitles).

POST 8 - Giving opinions

Gender injustice

In Chile, the feminist movement has reached high levels of importance and visibility. This increase in the number of people participating in this movement also implies more rejection and hatred from other groups with other ideas. Since the feminist movement questioned abortion or inclusive language, groups such as the pro-life or the social patriot movement (SPM) have emerged, which have attacked the feminist, even with weapons, such as the past 25 July. March for legal abortion, when the SPM "paints blood" street, in this march two women were attacked with knives by "criminals", I do not believe in this, I think it was them (SPM).

These people cause ulcers, because they never cared about the integrity of the children, they did not worry about the children in SENAME, they just want to govern our bodies.

I believe that the patriarchal society is latent, it is in the hands of the elders who have all the power and the money. I really do not understand how they have fired the assassins and rapists of Lucía Pérez who die impaled by three men . The court determined that she was not raped and drugged. They released their murderers.

This, unlike the case of Nahir Galarza, who was sentenced to life imprisonment because she killed her boyfriend. According to the defens, the fact was for self-defense. But justice determined otherwise.

Without a system of justice that does not protect us, they will continue to kill us. I hope that someday people will understand that we are fighting for our rights, for the lives they have taken from us, for our partners, for the violence that our mothers must face, for the freedom to go in any way or to use anything.

POST 7 - If You Could Be Someone Else for a Day, Who Would It Be?

I've never been a popular person in he school, my classmates excluded me, because i don't have the best shoes or enough money for toys or anything. I sheltered in my own world and i start to pay attention to class, but ultimately I wish to be someone else, I went to be the most popular girl in my classroom. Why girls has to be validated thruog her appearance?. Now I undestand this, but I can't detach me of all stereotypes that I have to fulfill, and I hate that.

Now, I'm still feeling bad with my appearance, but only sometimes, because I don't have the perfect face or the perfect outfit, but I don't care so much now. On the other hand I admire the beauty and self-assurance of trappers singers. For example Princesa Alba it's bother  because her body it's not perfect, but she don't care, like in her song "sorry, we don't worried about your hatin".

Ultimately, it's the same that I found before, but now doesn't make me suffer, but I still admire the beauty stereotypes, the money but the difference is the point of view, the beauty is subjective, and now I understand, the all of girls that I envy before for her beauty and popularity, it's because her have a lot self-assurance, and that it's not a bad thing (except fot the people who look down on the people).

In conclusion that I want to be for one day is a trapper singer, not for beign beautiful, but to learn about trust in my own person.

POST 6 - Postgraduate studies

(Good) Landscapes for everyone

Once I become in a urban architect, I'd like to create beautiful spaces, where people could enjoy going to and staying there.

I like walking/riding a bike around the city. I also like feeling the atmospheres in the city, for example when you walk over the hillside of Rio Mapocho, you can cross a lot of districts, but it's a little bit dangerous in some places. This problem makes me think why some places seem to be more dangerous than others. My answer to this (most of the time) depends on people. The people in comfortable spaces, make more relations and more safer zones. I like public spaces and I hope I can create good public spaces for everyone. I wish I could acomplish this goal because I want to take part of feminist urbanism.

But how i create this beauty spaces, without knowledge about the enviroment and their variables?
Tha´ts why i like to specialize in landscape architecture (i think this is more linked to the urbanism, but it's something).

To contribute for positive way in life of people and the earth I like to study things related to the planning of green areas and its vegetal material, learn what, how, where, etc., use some specific type of tree or shrub. Well in short i like to know about interpret the nature to apply this in the city public spaces.

POST 5 - My Future Job

ciudad

Honestly I don’t know what I’m doing before the university, probable work in any architecture office to pay the debts I will have for the university (and other things). I’m not totally convinced of any área of studying because i like a lot of things about this career, is very versatile, and i like desing, investigation, urban planning, history, the most part of this carrer, except maths and structure, because I’m not really good. But if i thing in two types of áreas like big scales or Little scales, and i choose the big scale.

The urban plannig have another background because affect more people and territory, I think this área have more sociopolitical context and if I will be urban agent I would like to provide quality of life to people and i like to change in a certain sense thw way of urban planing takes, because the economic things have to pass above  of social life.

Surely i will be indoor the most part of time, but according to the university have thaugth me, the urban planner have to be in the Street, this is fundamental to know about the systems to have the place or people and any urban project should be real, with real people and their real problems.

The salary? I don’t know, the architects earn good, i guess… and if I can’t i will go to Canada or some coutry with more oportunities, i think that i could achieve it.

POST 4 - What's Santiago like?

Life in Santiago is very interesting and chaotic.
Yes you can do anything! (except look at the sea) But exist a lot of places, parks, discoteques, on the other hand, you have hospitals, universities, subway and a bus network (not the most efficient in the world, but at least it reaches many places).  to entertaiment you should go to the center of the city or some of the hill existing (it depends what you are looking for)

Santiago's a big city, the major part of people live far away from the center of the city, that means the people need the bus, the subway, cars, or some means of transport in their cotidian life, also the places distant of the center, often be characterised for be a boring places without any other thing, only houses and strip centers, but the center of the city it is so exiting and you have a lot of things to do, parks, museums, and a multicultural enviroment.

In conclusion, Santiago is a big city with many equipment, and you have any thing that you desire, and all relatively near, but you always have the noisy cars, grey streets, and a few landscapes to evade the stressful life generated, many times by the chaotic type of transport, and the time it takes you.

POST 2 - The Best Concert Ever

I’m going start saying that i’m not gotta go to all the concert that I´m like to go, in fact I go a few concert, they are really expensive and I have a bad experience in one, when I go to Megadeth concert, I don’t remember the date but I was around thirteen or fourteen years’ old . The concert was really cool but the people was so weird and I don’t really feel good, because I like the music but I’m different, and my friends let me alone to go to the mosh pit.
I like this type of music, but the Latinoamerican escene cautivate me more that the Americans or European musician.  A few years ago I star to listen this other type of music, I like indie and trap music (in this moment)  a few months ago I went to Farewell of Denver, it was a lovely moment because the people was diverse and cool, the unique thing that bother me is the price of beer. This concert was in Blondie discoteque and before the concert we stay in there to dance and enjoy the atmosphere, this place have a nice people because anybody interrupt you unless you wish to do.

English IV - POST 1 A Country I'd Like to Visit

Well when I have time and money id like to visit all the world (the most part of them) but, the first destiny that I liked to visit is Europe of course, for the old architecture and beautiful place, I like to go to study and learn, if I can choose some place to study, that will be Barcelona, because I admire the urban regeneration that has been happening, be careful for the patrimonial architecture. Generally in Santiago we have not respect for the past and i think this created bored places.

In there i go to the Ramblas, all the buildings of Gaudi, the cathedrals, church and go to everything  that i can about the old architecture, i want to visit the paradigmatic modern architecture, but first i gotta learn and read about that and found interesting places and buildings.

i think this place is a good place to look patrimonial architecture and good modern urbanism eventually i gotta go, i hope.

POST 9 - Free Themed Topic

Well, this is the most difficult topic because i like a lot of music!, can vary as among reggaeton, indie, dethcore, etc. But today i talk about of this contrast in my musical tastes

Well i star to listen this music when i was a child with my friends in school, i can't deny this music is too obscene, but it is funny to dance with friends now, i often go to the discotheque but i don't like so much.

on the other side, when i was in high school i change my taste bacause i know other people, and i star to listen english music, with guitars and drums, and i star to listen metalcore and hardcore music, this is sound like only screamings but the lyrics are very interesting, al need to listen Architects, it is a better band of metalcore, and the lyrics are too stronger, another bands it sound similar are Northlane. if you can listen something more weird you shuold listen Rings of Saturn they call themselves Aliencore, it is too interesting. I never go to a concert of this music, because i had no money, and when my favourite band comes to Chile, the guitarrist and compositor, he did an cancer crisis, now he is dead.

Anyway i continue talk about my musical taste, now i like Trap and Aestethic music, but only womans singer because Princesa alba, Tomasa del real, Ms nina, etc are really cool.

POST 8 - A Subject you've enjoyed studying this semester

Well my favorite subject this semester is "problems of modern architecture", it is very interesting because i understand the meaning of modernization. In classes, the teacher gives a cathedra where through quotes and images to understand an interpretation of what was the architecture of modernism, or different concepts linked to the word "modern".

if there is something that could criticize the cathedra, is that there is not much discussion with respect to the class and is more than anything a monologue on the part of the teacher, although in fact I find it very entertaining anyway.

The contents that we have seen its about the architecture around 1920 and 1970, although the professor explains that modern architecture as such cannot be defined within a certain period of time, we can talk about modern movement, which expressed certain utopian ideals about turning life into a machine.

POST 7 - An Expert on your Field

Well, today i will talk about an expert that i admire this person was an activist and a theorist of urbanism her is Jane Butzner Jacobs, she was born in Pensilvania the 4th of may of 1916 and she died in 25th of April of 2006, she never studied something related with urbanism, but her husband Robert Jacobs was an architect, and he introduced Jane to the camp of urbanism. I'm using this opportunity to recommend to all the people interested in the city and it's people, to read the book "The death and life of great American cities" written by Jane Jacobs.

How i said before, Jane Jacobs was an activist and her ideas were to protect the neighborhoods and districts from the modern urbanism focused on the creations of highways and streets only used for cars. Although her ideas where from a long time ago (40's - 60's) they are still current thanks to her power of understanding the dynamics of the cities, that trancended the time. One of her most remembered battle was with Robert Moses, he was an urbanist of modernism and he impulsated the higways that crossed the neighborhoods. When Moses wanted to put an autopist in Manhattan, Jane Jacobs empowered the neighbors and the highway wasn't built, and this made an inflection point that served to question the way to carry out the creation of cities.
